Shogun Martial Arts School (Karate)

Shogun Martial Arts have been providing Martial Arts training in the Seaside town of Herne Bay since 1985, we are a community-based club and registered as a Community Amateur Sports Club by HMRC as well as being one of the first clubs achieving the Safeguarding in Martial Arts code. The club’s ethos is to provide a happy and safe place for people to study martial arts.

Lee Adams 8th Dan Kyoshi International Uechi Ryu Karate Federation

A martial arts  student since 1968, initially training in Judo and then Wado Ryu Karate (a mix of Shotokan and Jujitsu), and training with the founder Hironori Ohtsuka and UK Senior instructor Tatsuo Suzuki, competing in national and international competitions on a regular basis.

In the early 1980’s changed styles to study Uechi Ryu Karate a traditional Okinawan form of Chinese Kung fu and in the mid 1980’s wrote a number of articles in Traditional Karate magazine.

Lee represents the IUKF in the UK and has taught Karate in Okinawa and regularly teaches seminars in the United States.

Adnan Ahmet 2nd Dan International Uechi Ryu Karate Federation

Adnan has been training seriously in Karate since he was 18 years old, achieving Shodan in Shotokan before trying several other styles. He is currently graded in Uechi Ryu (Nidan) and Dentokan Shorin Ryu (Sandan). More recently He has also been training in Ryukyu Kobudo. Outside of the martial arts, Adnan works in Primary education as a headteacher.

Ben Rogers 1st Dan International Uechi Ryu Karate Federation

Started practicing Shotokan karate in 1989 in Portsmouth with South of England Karate Union finishing after graduation in July 1991.

In 1994, Ben started Chikarakai karate in Faversham with Southern open karate clubs finishing after moving to Herne Bay in early 1997. In 2010, Ben started Uechi Ryu Karate, but didn’t taking any grading until 2013, when he took his black belt grading in December 2020.

Ben joined Kent Fire Brigade in November 1993 serving at Dover, Channel Tunnel and then Herne Bay. He retired in November 2023 after 30 years’ service.

Scott Taylor 1st Dan International Uechi Ryu Karate Federation

Scott has been studying Uechi Ryu since 2018 , and enjoys the discipline and application of the techniques.

Scott is married with two sons and has his own business as a butcher.

Emma Phillips 1st Dan International Uechi Ryu Karate Federation

Emma Started her Shotokan Karate training in London, to keep her young children company. 18 months later she moved to Herne Bay and started training in Uechi Ryu Karate which she finds more interesting and more challenging.

Emma is a professional actress but is now working for an editing company, She is married with two teenage girls.
